I'm not understanding mean by `a` and `The`.

I was studying English today on the remote school.

I'm not understanding mean by `a` and `The`.

Even without it, the meaning can be conveyed.

Even if I search on the web but I can't find an explanation of why I need it, only explaining when to use them.
